A travel account describes a guided mushroom session and calls the experience an exorcism. It also mentions pausing Parkinson’s medication beforehand. How can readers separate the meaning someone gives an experience from medical questions about what happened?
How should you make sense of a psychedelic experience that feels spiritual?
Answers
A spiritual interpretation can matter to the person who had the experience without proving that a supernatural event occurred. It is reasonable to respect the meaning while staying careful about claims of fact, especially when the account leaves out details.

The medication part deserves a separate, practical response. Parkinson’s medication should not be paused for a psychedelic session without guidance from the prescribing clinician. A prescriber or pharmacist can review the specific medication, substance, and timing. A guide’s confidence is not a substitute for that review.

A temporary change in tremor or hand control during a drug experience does not by itself show that an underlying condition improved. Perception, movement, medication changes, and other factors can be hard to disentangle. If a change persists or causes concern, discuss it with a clinician and describe exactly what was taken and when.
