Are Schizophrenics Truly Enlightened?

Recently, I came across a post that suggested people with schizophrenia might actually be enlightened, claiming their hallucinations are real experiences. I'm curious about what others think on this topic. I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I was kind of taken aback when I saw a video of someone with schizophrenia appearing to have a hallucination that actually showed things moving on screen. What's the real perspective on this?

Mysticism and schizophrenia might share some similarities, but thinking of them as the same is misguided. Mental illness isn’t a pathway to enlightenment, and often it just leads to suffering, not wisdom.

I think it's important to differentiate between mental illness and some kind of superpower. While some may feel their condition gives them insight, it complicates life rather than simplifies it.

Yeah, let's not go down that rabbit hole. It's important to stay grounded. Trust me, I've been there. The real magic lies in staying connected to reality, not drifting into psychosis.

As someone with schizophrenia, I find the idea that it's a form of enlightenment pretty offensive. My condition is a serious mental illness, not some kind of special insight or hack. It's just not true.

newbieExplorer76: I appreciate your honesty. I’m still learning about all this, but I thought that idea was a bit odd. Hearing it from someone who experiences it is really helpful.

Anyone who claims schizophrenia is "enlightening" is really downplaying the severity of the illness. It makes you question their understanding of what schizophrenia actually is.
