Question

Could this hammer be cursed, or am I connecting it to the mouse noises?

During a mouse problem, I used a kitchen hammer to kill mice caught on glue traps. The hammer now hangs by the door, and lately I’ve heard rustling sounds again, though I haven’t found signs of mice. I’m uneasy about the hammer and wondering what to do.

The noises alone don’t tell you what’s causing them, and they aren’t evidence that the hammer is haunted. I’d check the usual signs, like droppings, gnaw marks, food packaging, and possible gaps around pipes or doors. If anything turns up, ask a pest professional to inspect the home and look for entry points.

If the hammer makes you uncomfortable, wrap it and dispose of it safely. You don’t need to keep an object that has become a source of worry.

Honestly, get rid of the hammer if seeing it keeps pulling you back into that stressful period. It’s just an object, and the new sounds could have plenty of ordinary explanations. If you decide to keep it, handle it with gloves and clean it according to the care instructions for its materials. I wouldn’t use it for food again.

That sounds like a rough stretch, especially with a young child at home. It makes sense that the hammer became tied to the whole experience, but that doesn’t mean it caused the noises. You could dispose of it and do something simple to mark the end of that chapter, like cleaning the spot where it hangs or putting something else there. If the fear keeps disrupting sleep or daily life, consider talking it through with someone you trust or a health professional.
