I’m interested in magick, especially sigils and chaos magick, but I’m not comfortable invoking spirits or entities. Is that required, or are there other ways to practice?

It isn’t required across the board. Some approaches focus on intention, symbols, visualization, meditation, or ritual actions without addressing any entity. You can choose methods that fit your boundaries and leave spirit work out.

Think of entities as one framework for explaining or organizing a practice, not a universal ingredient. Some people treat them as independent beings, while others understand ritual in psychological or symbolic terms. Those are different interpretations, so you don’t have to settle the metaphysics before trying a non-entity method.

Some traditions do put spirits at the center, so a particular book may not be a good fit if it assumes you want to invoke them. Look for material that clearly describes its methods without that step, and skip anything that makes you uneasy.
