Question

Should I Use My Given Name or Chosen Name for Spellwork?

I've recently picked a new name for myself, but I haven't changed it legally yet, and no one knows about it. When performing spellwork, should I stick with my birth name or should I use the name I've chosen? What's the general consensus on this?

I think using your chosen name would be more effective since it aligns better with your true identity. Everyone has their own way of doing things, so do what feels right for you. Just remember that your practice is personal, and it's all about what resonates with you!

Always go with your chosen name! It reflects who you truly are. If your birth name carries negative feelings, it's only right to embrace the name that resonates with you now. And remember, if you ever change your name again, just use the one that feels best at that time.

If you're looking for a safe approach, consider using both names. For instance, you could say, "I call this energy to myself, [new name], known also as [old name]." You could even do a small ceremony to fully let go of your old name and welcome your new one into your spiritual practice. It's actually pretty common to have a secret name for your craft.

Definitely go with your chosen name! It’s part of who you are now. If you're feeling uncertain, you could use some of your hair or nail clippings during your spellwork for added connection. It’s completely understandable wanting to embrace your new identity, and you should never feel pressured to use your old name. You've got this!
