I've been practicing witchcraft for a couple of years now, mostly using what I've had handy with mixed results. As a little reward for my recent success in college, I'm planning to treat myself to a haul of "witch supplies." I'm looking to order some tarot cards (I've been using regular playing cards as oracle cards, haha) and I'm definitely going to get some candles—maybe some herbs too. I've noticed that candles come in all sorts of shapes like twisted, skull-shaped, human form, tea lights, pillar candles, 7-day candles, moon shapes, and so on. I'm really curious about what these different candle shapes might be best used for, but I can't seem to find a comprehensive list for their associations. If anyone has some helpful info or recommendations for other supplies or books, I'd really appreciate it!

While many books don’t dive into the significance of candle shapes, I find that they've helped in my own practice. I've used a body-shaped candle for a personal spell and had fantastic results! The shape really underscores your intentions and goals.

There are indeed candle magic books that include recommendations. The wiki might have some great suggestions! Madame Pamita's book, for example, goes over how different sizes and shapes can be utilized in your practices.

Shaped candles typically don't have strict associations in most resources, but there's room for personal interpretation. For instance, you might use a body-shaped candle for spells related to yourself or others. Personally, I favor Sun and Moon shapes for abundance and lunar work, respectively. Tealights can act like chime candles—they burn longer than a typical chime candle and are useful for various rituals. As for skull candles, those are great when working with deities linked to death, ancestors, or during Samhain.

In various traditions, certain shaped candles are preferred for specific purposes. For example, figural candles (like those representing people, animals, or even body parts) can help influence particular situations or individuals. Candles in the shape of males or females are often used in spells about love, intimacy, and fertility. On the other hand, skull candles can help with mental influence or ancestor work.

Figural/Image candles are molded to depict people, animals, or body parts, and they're commonly used to influence specific individuals or situations. Also, cat or animal-shaped candles are popular for protection, luck, or connecting with animal spirits.
