Does Blowing Out a Candle Affect Your Spell?

I'm curious about the impact of blowing out a candle versus letting it burn out naturally, especially when it comes to spell work. I had a candle lit for a spell, and while I started off letting it burn, the flame was getting a bit too wild for my comfort. I ended up blowing it out early while saying "I'm sending my intention into the Universe." Am I risking the effectiveness of the spell by extinguishing the flame this way?

Hey there! Totally get being nervous about flames. Fire safety is key when mixing witchcraft with fire. Remember, a candle's flame can reach super high temperatures. It’s super common for materials that aren’t heatproof to shatter due to thermal shock, so you're right to be careful. If you blew it out while you felt connected to your intention, it might still carry your energy, but letting it burn out naturally is often seen as better practice.

It really depends on how you design your spells. Personally, I make sure to use candles that burn out completely in one go. I trim the wick and practice good fire safety because the last thing you want is a flame getting out of control. Some folks will let their candles burn down to a certain point instead. Did you raise enough energy into the spell before blowing it out?

I grew up hearing that you should try not to blow out a candle unless it's specifically called for in your magic. The general belief is that blowing it out can ‘blow away’ the spell too. I usually opt for small candles that burn fast, like tealights, instead.

I often just blow the candle out! It feels more natural for me, and I think as long as you do it with intention, it should be fine. Everyone has their personal technique, so just go with what feels right for you!
