What Are Some Free Alternatives for Ritual Tools?
Asked by

Hey everyone! I'm on the lookout for some practical (and ideally free) substitutes for a few ritual tools. Specifically, I'm thinking about alternatives for the Lotus Wand, Pillars, Disk/Sigilum Dei, and Dagger. Any suggestions on what I can use instead or how I can create these tools myself would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a ton!

Honestly, making your own tools is the best way to go! It might sound daunting, but it’s easier than you'd think. For the dagger, you can find an ordinary knife, paint the handle in the right color, and add names or sigils — consecrate it, and you’re good to go! The other tools are super easy to create with basic craft supplies.

I've noticed folks in my traditional order using simple drawings of the tools on construction paper as a temporary stand-in. It’s not ideal, but it works if you haven’t had the chance to craft the actual tools yet. Personally, I’ve also used elemental jewelry as makeshift tools based on some ideas from Digital Ambler. It feels right for the kind of magic I do!

If you're open to free alternatives for your rituals, consider performing them in the astral realm! You can manifest all the tools you need there, and even notable figures like Crowley did a lot of work in the astral.

You can always use your imagination! The seal can be made cheaply with melted wax and a carving tool. Just create symbols that resonate with you personally. Anything can work, as long as you feel a connection to the symbolism.

Don't forget that intent is key for all these tools! The right mindset can make any substitute effective.
