Should I get checked after a brief flash of dots?

I saw small flashing dots for a few seconds after dinner, and they went away. I also noticed a little numbness near the back of my head. Could this be harmless, or should I get medical advice?

A brief episode can have several causes, and the description alone can’t tell whether it was harmless. Since the flashing was new and came with numbness, contact a medical professional promptly today for guidance, even if both have stopped. If the numbness returns or you develop weakness, trouble speaking, confusion, a severe headache, or loss of vision, seek emergency care now.

There’s also an eye-specific reason not to brush off new flashes. If you notice a sudden increase in floaters, repeated flashes, a shadow or curtain in your vision, or reduced sight, get urgent eye care. A clinician can help sort out whether the source is in the eye or something else.
