Some online tarot readers ask for a name or birth date before a reading. Is that needed for tarot, or is it for something else?
Why do tarot readers ask for my birth date or name?

A name or birth date isn’t required to read tarot cards. Some readers ask to make the session feel more personal, keep track of whose reading it is, or focus on a particular question.

Sometimes the reader is adding astrology or numerology to the card reading, and a birth date can be used for that. If they don’t explain why they want it, it’s reasonable to ask before sharing anything.

You can also ask whether a first name, initials, or no identifying details will do. If you’re not comfortable giving your date of birth, just say so. The reader can tell you whether that changes the kind of reading they offer.
