Why did I hear a woman's voice saying my call was transcribed?

I was chatting with my best friend on the phone for about 40 minutes when suddenly I couldn't hear her anymore. Instead, I heard a beep, followed by a woman's voice stating, "call has been transcribed. Thank you!" After that, my friend's voice came back, and she wondered why I hung up and called her back, which I totally didn't do. I'm really freaked out about this—what's happening?

Sounds like a weird glitch or maybe some transcription service that got activated. Definitely a little unsettling though, right?

This has happened to me before too! I was really spooked at first, but then I realized I accidentally activated a new button on my call interface that lets you record calls. It’s pretty easy to trigger with your cheek if you’re not careful. It's kind of a bad design, honestly. Or maybe they want us to get used to the idea of recording our calls? Just a thought!

Honestly, at this point, it feels like everyone’s always listening. Might be a good idea to switch to apps like Signal or FaceTime for voice and video calls since they’re end-to-end encrypted.

It’s a strange world we live in—who knows who’s actually listening to our calls? Better keep an eye out!

skepticalSteve: Yeah, when you hit that button, the person you're talking to briefly hears the line go silent, and then an automated voice announces, "this call is being recorded," before going back to the conversation. That doesn't quite match your experience, though. It sounds more like something else is happening here.
