How Did Tarot Transform from a Card Game to a Divination Tool?

I've recently become really interested in tarot and wanted to learn about its origins. I was surprised to find out that it started as a card game commissioned by a wealthy family in Italy. Over time, it became associated with divination, with salespeople spinning tales about ancient Egyptian symbols, which later attracted the likes of Waite who worked with an artist to create its current designs. This revelation made me question the spiritual meanings behind tarot, as they seem to stem from something that's almost fabricated. Despite the historical context, I'm curious about why tarot is still seen as a valid method of divination today. Just to clarify, I'm genuinely curious and open to corrections if needed!

People have used various tools for divination throughout history, including playing cards, numbers, and images. Tarot isn't special in that regard; if someone is skilled with a tool, it can be legitimate. Think of tarot as a more detailed way of 'casting lots.' You pick cards rather than throw them all at once, focusing on each as it comes.
