What Methods Do You Use to Choose Tarot Cards?

I'm curious about the different techniques people use to pick their tarot cards. Do you shuffle the deck until a card jumps out, or do you spread them out and choose a few based on intuition? I usually hover my hand over the cards and feel for an energy connection, but I worry that this might bias my selection towards cards I subconsciously want or fear to pull. I believe we all have some psychic intuition that can guide us, but I'm wondering if this method could lead to inaccuracies in the reading. When I simply draw cards without feeling them out, I often receive clearer messages. I'd love to hear everyone else's experiences!

I keep it simple and just draw from the top of the deck. I genuinely believe that no matter what card comes up, there’s a message to uncover. Sometimes randomness can lead to the most profound insights!

For me, it’s all about the connection with my deck. I shuffle until it feels right—like the deck is saying it’s done. Then I pull the top card. After 25 years with the same deck, I really feel like we have an understanding! Sometimes it even tells me to flip certain cards, which adds another layer to the reading. Lol.

I practice lenormand but still enjoy tarot. When I shuffle, I think about how to phrase my question, which helps focus my energy. I ground myself during the shuffle, then start pulling cards from the top. I often know my spread ahead of time, but sometimes I get inspired to use more cards than planned, like turning a 3-card spread into a 5 or 9-card reading.

While shuffling, I focus on my question, and I can really sense when I need to pull a card. My hand gets warmer or I just mentally say, 'this one.' It’s an interesting and personal experience every time!

My process starts with a lot of shuffling, typically three times, then I cut the deck with my left hand or let the person I’m reading for do that. I pull from the top, and I lay the cards down face down first before flipping them over. I’ve experimented a lot and found this gets me more coherent and accurate readings than waiting for a feeling to guide my hands. However, if something feels off about a card’s position, I go with it—even if it flips over by itself!

I like to ask my question out loud while shuffling. Once I have a clear sentence formed, I do a final small shuffle and draw the top card for a direct answer. The second card adds more detail, and I consider face cards as guidance on how to handle the situation. It’s a simple method, but it feels like a real conversation with my deck, and I find it really intuitive and effective!

Before shuffling, I decide what spread I'm using. When I shuffle, I wait until I feel prompted by a number—often it’s 4—then I shuffle that many times before drawing from the top. This method just feels right, and it works for me!

Honestly, I think it varies each time! Sometimes cards pop out, and I just go with it. Other times I shuffle, split the deck, and start pulling. In the end, it all comes down to trusting your intuition—don’t overthink it. It’s a personal journey, after all!

I usually establish a spread and think about my question as I shuffle—mostly riffle shuffling. After that, I might cut the deck in half or thirds, depending on my vibe that day. Sometimes if a card jumps out, I’ll use it as the first card in the spread, but if I think I just dropped it, I’ll just put it back and keep shuffling. I really prefer to work with a spread, like a simple 3-card one or more, depending on what feels right.
