I’m unsure where to direct my eyes during meditation. Should I keep them closed, look down, or aim them upward? I’d like to stay alert without getting distracted by my eyes moving around.
Where should my eyes rest when I meditate?

If you’re comfortable with your eyes closed, let them rest naturally. You don’t need to point them upward for visualization. A little movement behind closed eyelids is normal, and trying to control it can become its own distraction.

Try a soft, unfocused gaze at a spot on the floor a few feet ahead. That can make it easier to stay awake, and you don’t have to hold your eyes perfectly still. If your gaze wanders, gently return it without making a big deal of it.

There isn’t one required position. Closed eyes work for some people, while a relaxed downward gaze works better for others. If you keep getting sleepy with your eyes shut, sit a little more upright or try a shorter session with your eyes open.
