Is the Soul Immortal or Mortal? Exploring the Differences Between Soul and Spirit

Hey everyone! I'm curious about the nature of the soul and spirit. Do you think the soul is immortal, or is it mortal while the spirit is eternal? Or could it be that both the soul and spirit are mortal? I've been looking for insights, especially through the lens of occult beliefs. Also, I came across a biblical perspective that suggests the soul isn't immortal, but I want to clarify that the soul is distinct from the spirit. What are your thoughts?

I've been pondering this too! To me, there's really just one Spirit, and it's not something individualized. Think of it as the totality of all consciousness. Souls are like individual bubbles in a vast sea of air—that air never disappears; the bubble just pops and merges back into the Spirit. In essence, our souls might experience life separately, but they eventually return to that greater whole, while our ego—or that sense of being distinct—just fades away. It's like time for the ego moves forward, but for the soul, it's more about experiences rather than a strict timeline. When the ego dies, the soul goes back to the All, retaining memories but without the personal attachment. The Spirit just observes. Pretty deep, right?

You know, there really isn't a uniform view on what 'soul' and 'spirit' mean. Different cultures and belief systems define these terms variously. Take alchemy, for example; it sees the body as mortal, the spirit as more permanent yet changeable, and the soul as immutable and immortal. In Christianity, the soul is often portrayed as eternal, even if sometimes referred to as being 'dead' in hell. So, context is key, and it varies widely depending on the tradition you look at!

Here's a thought: Look at how intricate and complex our physical selves are. Why should we assume that our spiritual selves are any less complicated? The Ancient Egyptians believed there were several parts to the soul—sometimes three, sometimes seven, depending on the era and location. It could definitely be an even broader concept than we realize. Fascinating, right?

From what I understand, the soul lives on longer than our physical bodies, and the spirit might outlast the soul as well. It's a layered concept that I think deserves more exploration. What do you think about that?

I believe the spirit can exist after death, but only for a limited time. It seems like unless it's prepared for the 'second death,' it will eventually fade into the universe. When that happens likely depends on how at peace someone was when they passed. It could be immediate or take years—what do you think?

Interesting question! But what's your source for the biblical idea that the soul isn't immortal? Just like Wikipedia, the Bible has seen a ton of edits, so it's a bit tricky to determine its true meaning. Soul and spirit often overlap in definitions; many argue they are just different terms for the same animating force that survives after death. Would love to know more about where you're getting your information from!
