What’s the Truth about 33rd Degree Freemasons and Occult Practices?

I recently found out that my roommate's dad is a 33rd degree Freemason. There's a lot of talk about Freemasonry being linked to occult or Satanic practices, especially at higher levels. Does reaching the 33rd degree mean someone is involved in these practices? And would they even be aware of it if that were the case?

Honestly, it’s all about perspective. You’ve probably heard a lot of exaggerated stories. Most Freemasons aren't involved with anything evil; the idea that they deal with Satanism is just exaggerated nonsense that circulates online.

From what I've seen, they don't usually reveal any darker practices, if they exist, until you’re deeply involved. So, your roommate's dad might be in a different place than he lets on.

It’s often claimed that the majority of Freemasons are unaware of anything occult. Most are just in it for the camaraderie at the lower levels. However, those higher up might have a different understanding of things, including some connections to the occult, but not every high-ranking Freemason practices black magic. They definitely hold significant influence over world affairs and have knowledge that isn't typically shared with the lower ranks.

It’s important to remember that the 33rd degree is often more of an honorary title rather than a rank earned through rigorous work. The first 32 degrees are where the real engagement and challenges happen.
