Should I Dismantle My Altar After Use?

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie exploring the world of altars and I've come across various opinions on whether it's best to take them down after each use or if it's fine to keep them set up. I'm curious if anyone has some insights on how to manage an altar—specifically, is it okay to leave it up for regular use, or should it be dismantled when not in use? Thanks for any advice you can share!

Great question! Many people confuse altars with shrines. An altar is usually a more temporary workspace where you perform magical tasks, while a shrine typically honors specific spirits or deities and can be more permanent. You can definitely have a dual-purpose space; just remember it's all about what feels right for you. No two altars are the same!

Your altar really is your own space! Personally, mine is more of a shrine—I leave it set up permanently and it showcases my vintage ritual tools. But when I perform rituals outside, I set up temporary altars with fresh flowers and offerings. The next day, I put everything back to reset my shrine. Do what feels right for you!

It's really up to what works for you! I keep my altar in my meditation space set up all the time. I use it daily and it just feels right to have it there. I also like to create seasonal altars in my garden that I change out every few months. It’s all about what feels practical to you!
