Is it okay to ceremonially burn old photos and letters?

Hi there! I've had a wave of old memories hit me unexpectedly, and while going through my garage, I found a box filled with photos, letters, and keepsakes that go along with those painful memories. I'm thinking about burning them as a cathartic way to move on. Is there a proper or safe way to do this, and is there anything I should consider before going ahead? Thanks for any tips!

Have you thought about making copies of the photos to burn instead? Some people feel differently about burning actual photos, saying it's not the best move, but copies are definitely an option if you want to keep the originals.

Just burn them in a fireproof container, in a safe space, and never leave it unattended. It’s pretty straightforward. Just be mindful of fire safety!

It sounds like a powerful way to release those memories! Just make sure to really take your time looking at the photos one last time. I did something similar with my past—a cleansing of sorts. I burned my old relationship mementos and felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders afterward.

There's really no one right way to do this. Many people recommend doing it during a waning moon to symbolize letting go of the past, but honestly, you can choose any time that feels right for you. Just make sure to prioritize fire safety, like using a fireproof container and doing it in a well-ventilated area.
