How Should I Handle Cards That Fall Out While Shuffling?

I'm relatively new to tarot reading and often find that when I shuffle, several cards fall out of the deck. I've noticed some online tarot readers mentioning that these fallen cards, often called 'fliers', should be included in the reading. However, I wonder about the accuracy of these cards since they aren't actively chosen by me. Usually, I get around 3 to 4 fliers, but sometimes as many as 6 or 7, which leaves me confused about whether my deck is overly active or if I just need to improve my shuffling technique, especially since my deck is new and a bit slippery. I generally do 3-card spreads, and I'd love to hear how others deal with fallen cards!

I tend to only read the fliers! I shuffle until cards fall out; sometimes I'll get a bunch, and sometimes hardly any. It's super accurate for me when I do this. I suggest following your intuition on it!

You can definitely include those cards if you want! If I get a bunch of fliers, I usually just reassess the question I'm asking. The key is to have a clear intention—this way, the reading stays coherent and meaningful.
curiousDeckUser: That makes sense! I think I’ll start being consistent with how I deal with fliers.
happyTarotReader: Exactly! Keeping intention clear helps in understanding the messages.

I usually only read jumpers, but I often overlook them if more than one falls out. For me, the accuracy is much better when I focus on singular cards. If a card flies out, it typically gets my attention, but anything beyond that feels cluttered.
shufflerGoddess: I usually only consider single fliers too; when they clump together, I tend to think they're just accidents.

While it's great to learn from online readers, there's no 'should' when it comes to tarot—everyone has their style. If you're dropping a lot of cards, it might be a slippery deck or just a shuffling technique issue. Personally, I look at a flier but put it back into the deck unless it comes up again while picking my cards; then I pay extra attention to it.
newbieTarotExplorer: Guess I need to either skip the fliers or work on my shuffling style!
cyberTarotSeer: Totally agree! I also prefer to ignore fliers unless they show up again.

tarotNinja89: I thought I was the only one! It’s been spot-on for me too.
MysticSoul77: I also wait until one card falls out alone. If multiple cards drop, I re-shuffle until I get just one; that’s usually the accurate one.
