Feeling Overwhelmed with Tarot Card Meanings – How Do I Build My Confidence?

I'm relatively new to tarot and it's been such a journey! Recently, I got super excited learning about how even the traditionally 'positive' Major Arcana cards can have negative interpretations depending on the situation. However, I'm also feeling overwhelmed. Even when I think I understand a lot, I quickly realize how much I still don't know. I've been practicing readings for about six months on various topics, but now I'm second-guessing myself. For instance, when I pulled The Sun during a love reading, could it imply negativity instead of the positivity I used to think? How can I improve my knowledge and confidence in reading cards, especially since I've recently discovered that cards like the Ten of Cups, The Lovers, and The Star can also have negative meanings? I'm struggling to find concrete resources on these interpretations and it's a bit frustrating. Any advice on how to navigate this confusion?

Sometimes all you need is to let the cards be quiet and just listen to what they’re saying. It’s all part of the journey!

Man, that feeling is super common! Just because cards can have darker meanings doesn’t mean that, in your context, they will. If you draw The Sun, The Lovers, and the Ten of Cups, it’s unlikely to indicate doom unless other cards or the situation suggests it. With time and practice, the cards will start to speak to you intuitively, so try not to overthink it!

Many tarot beginners bite off more than they can chew by trying to grasp all 78 cards at once. I recommend starting with just the 22 Major Arcana. They can be read intuitively, like an oracle, while still giving you real insights. Once you're comfy with those, ease into the Minor Arcana, maybe focusing on one suit at a time.

If you're keen on deepening your tarot knowledge, consider exploring the Decan wheel. It might sound like a lot, but it really helped me make sense of various meanings. If you're using RWS or Thoth decks, it’ll all connect well. Good luck on your tarot journey!

You’re not alone in feeling this way! As you learn more about tarot, it’s common to feel like there’s a ton left to discover. Just keep enjoying the learning experience. Every new insight adds depth to your understanding without invalidating the past readings you’ve done. Think of it like peeling layers away—always more to uncover!

A great way to advance is to analyze the imagery on the cards. I recommend journaling with each card, focusing on both positive and negative interpretations. By getting familiar with the artwork, your intuitive understanding will likely blossom over time. Memorizing meanings can be overwhelming and block your intuition, so focus on the visual stories instead.

Hey, I totally get where you're coming from! Learning tarot is a complex process and discovering new meanings doesn't erase what you've already learned. Just remember, you don’t know what you don’t know. I suggest spending some quiet time just looking deeply at the cards. Try to see how positive cards could tilt negative and vice versa – it really helps to understand the nuances! It's more about intuition than memorizing everything.

insightfulJourney: That’s spot on! Also, how you phrase your question matters a lot. If you're asking for general insight, take the cards at face value. But if you want to explore possible pitfalls, even The Sun can have a warning.
