I have a large collection of older paranormal books, including some that may be hard to find. I’d like to avoid throwing them out and, if possible, keep the collection together. What are some sensible options?
Where could a big collection of paranormal books go?
Answers
Try libraries with local history or special collections, archives, and museums that collect folklore or related material. Send a short inventory first, with titles, authors, publication details, and condition. Many places have limited space and may not accept unsolicited donations, so ask before making plans.
If you want the collection considered after your death, write down the intended recipient and a backup option, and make sure your executor knows the donation depends on the institution accepting it.

I’d get a bookseller who handles used or collectible books to look over the list before donating. Out of print does not automatically mean valuable, but a specialist may help identify editions that are worth selling or deserve extra care. If keeping everything together matters most, ask whether they can offer the collection as a single lot.

Folklore or local-history groups could be worth asking too, especially if the books connect to a particular region or subject. They may know a suitable archive or collector even if they cannot take the books themselves. Have a practical backup plan, though, since one recipient may not be able to keep every volume.
