Alternatives to Salt for Cleansing in Rituals

I'm new to witchcraft and identify as a water witch because of my connection to water. Since I'm not comfortable with candles, I often incorporate salt into my rituals. I usually draw a pentacle with salt at the bottom of my bowl and mix it into my ritual water. I also wash my hands with this water afterward to ensure my intentions remain clear and aren't just washed down the drain. However, I have a problem—I'm allergic to salt water, which causes me to break out in rashes. Does anyone know of an alternative that offers similar protective and cleansing benefits like salt? I really appreciate the barrier it creates between my rituals and the outside world, but I need to find a solution to the rashes!

I've seen others mention feeling drained after rituals, which can happen if you're overextending yourself. It might help to look into some basic energetic hygiene techniques, like grounding and centering, to keep your energy levels balanced during rituals!

What about using sugar as an alternative? It has a different vibe but you can infuse it with your intentions just like salt. The intention might be enough to give you that same protective feeling while avoiding the rashes.

Hey there! Instead of incorporating salt directly into your water, consider drawing your pentacle with energy. You could use blue or white light from a wand or your Athame. You might also try leaving the salt out of the water and just using fresh water for cleansing your hands afterward. If you have any crystals you like using, you could add one of those to the water for extra energy and protection!

NatureLover78: That sounds like a great idea! I love the idea of using energy to create the pentacle—definitely going to try that!
