How to Consult the I Ching Oracle
The I Ching, or Book of Changes, is one of the oldest divination texts in the world, dating back over 3,000 years. It operates on the principle of synchronicity, the idea that the random fall of coins mirrors the energetic patterns of the universe at that specific moment.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Formulate Your Question: Clear your mind and focus on a specific open-ended question. Avoid simple “yes/no” questions. Instead, ask “What is the situation regarding…” or “What is the best approach to…”
- Cast the Coins: Click the button to toss the three digital coins. This tool uses the traditional probability of the 3-coin method.
- Build the Hexagram: You will cast the coins six times. The hexagram is built from the bottom line (Line 1) up to the top (Line 6).
Understanding the Lines
Each toss results in a specific number that determines the type of line formed:
- 7 (Young Yang): A solid, stable line. Represents active energy that is consistent.
- 8 (Young Yin): A broken, stable line. Represents receptive energy that is consistent.
- 9 (Old Yang): A solid line that is “moving” or changing. It transforms into Yin.
- 6 (Old Yin): A broken line that is “moving” or changing. It transforms into Yang.
Reading Your Result
The tool will identify your Primary Hexagram, which describes your current situation. If your reading includes “Changing Lines” (Old Yin or Old Yang), these indicate that your situation is in flux. These changing lines transform your primary hexagram into a second, relating hexagram, showing you the potential future outcome or the result of the advice given.
