What do you do with ritual papers after they've served their purpose?

I'm curious about what to do with the paper elements used in rituals once they've fulfilled their purpose, like drawn talismans, number squares, or written prayers. Personally, I usually leave them out and light a candle on them each night, along with offering incense to the deities or forces involved. But once I achieve the desired outcome, is it better to keep these items or to get rid of them through burning, burying, or sending them off in a river? Does it really matter what I do?

Depending on the purpose, I might totally get rid of ritual items differently. For example, I’ll tear and scatter papers for emotional intentions, while for wealth, I’ll bury them. Sometimes I even laminate important ones to keep them for future use.

I typically burn them and then dispose of the ashes in running water or I might bury them. Seems like a respectful way to handle them.

I often just leave them on my altar, let them hang out there for a while.

The traditional way is to return the paper to nothingness with respect and gratitude. But honestly, the casual approach might just leave it lying around for someone else to deal with later!

Just a heads up, I think it’s best not to leave anything lingering around after a ritual—like the scene in Fight Club says, always tidy up, whether you're at home or somewhere in nature.
