Question

What Are Some Good Alternatives to Tarot Cards for Divination?

I'm looking for alternative tools for divination because I have OCD, which makes me really anxious about counting cards and checking if any are missing. I love the practice of divination and want something that works similarly to tarot, but I'd prefer an option that doesn't cost more than a typical tarot deck and doesn't involve too many pieces.

For a more tactile experience, geomancy might be perfect. You can use sticks or even just paper and a pencil to draw your figures. The lower count of defined symbols opens you up to more intuitive interpretations as well. Another idea is to use tea leaves after brewing some loose leaf tea. It’s a unique way to read patterns—plus, you’ll already have everything you need with just a teapot and cup!

Horary astrology could be a good fit too! You won’t need any physical pieces, and you can just use software to get readings. Always remember, it’s all about finding what resonates with you and helps spark your intuition, so try out different methods!

If you're okay with sticking to tarot, consider using a tarot app. This can take away the counting issue since everything would be digital. Also, look into Oracle cards that aren’t numbered—like the Inner F*cking Peace deck I have. Each card has a fun message on it, which might make it less stressful compared to tarot cards.

Have you thought about I Ching? You just need three coins to get started—definitely low on the counting! It's a different method than tarot but still provides insight. You can throw the coins to create hexagrams that guide you in reading. Plus, you can find plenty of resources online to help you learn how to interpret them.

You might want to try runes! They usually come in a set of 24, and they're easy to understand. Ogham cards are another option; they have 20 cards, but no extras to keep track of. A pendulum can also be great since it's just one tool that you can easily manage. If you want something more hands-on, how about dowsing rods? They require one in each hand, but they're straightforward once you get a hang of them.
