Looking for Tips on Setting Up a Tarot Booth at Outdoor Events

Hey everyone! I'm diving into the world of outdoor tarot readings and would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. A bit about me: I've been reading tarot for about 30 years, mainly for family and friends, and I've received great feedback. I'm not a clairvoyant—my focus is on interpreting cards within the traditional RWS framework. Recently, I retired from my job and am considering setting up a booth at a local farmer's market this summer, as I miss reading for people outside my circle. I'm eager to share my practice now that I feel less worried about others' opinions.
I have a couple of questions:
1. **Setting Up My Space:** For those who have done outdoor events, what should my booth look like? I know I need a canopy for shade, signage, a table, and chairs, but I'm not very crafty. I want it to feel inviting. What decorations or essentials have you found useful for your setups?
2. **Charging for Readings:** At first, I thought I'd offer free readings, but friends have pointed out that not charging might devalue the work and could be seen as disrespectful to others who do charge. Since I don't need the money, I'm torn. Should I ask for donations, or is it okay to keep it free? I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.
3. **Other Considerations:** What else should I keep in mind before getting started? Any lessons learned would be super helpful. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey! First off, check the farmer's market policies. Do you need vendor insurance? Some places require it, and it can be affordable. Also, watch out for laws around 'fortune-telling' in your area; you don’t want any surprises. It’s best to be cautious about those old regulations. Better safe than sorry!

I think your plan sounds fantastic! A simple setup with a folding canopy and a chalkboard for messages will look professional. For atmosphere, focus on items that make you comfortable—maybe a small flower arrangement. And definitely think about privacy for your clients while reading; facing them away from the crowd can help.
Regarding charging, I believe having clients contribute helps acknowledge your time and effort. This way, they won’t feel indebted to you, and it maintains balance. Starting with a contribution model could work well, or if you're nervous about that, you could donate to a charity—just be transparent about it.

When I set up my booth years ago, comfort and practicality were key. I suggest having water and notepads for yourself handy. Keep it fun and low-stress! I always put my clients first, so arranging the space for calm is crucial. You seem like you'll have a blast!

I totally agree with having a small donation box for a cause you care about. It’s all about energy exchange! You'll likely have a better experience if clients understand this. Plus, the charity aspect can encourage people to contribute willingly!
