Is It Safe for Hindu Practitioners to Use the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram?

Asked By curiousWanderer On

I'm a Hindu who actively worships various deities, and I've been curious about using the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP). My main concern is whether this ritual might interfere with the positive energies I've cultivated through my worship. Would it be safe for me to practice the LBRP, or could it possibly disrupt my spiritual connection?

Honestly, the LBRP isn't a banishment in a permanent sense. It’s more like closing your door for a bit so you can focus on connecting with your deities. It's about achieving balance, and if they’re part of your aura, it could strengthen that connection. Just be sure to adapt it to fit your cultural background—it's perfectly okay to modify the symbolism! Most cultures have similar overarching symbols, so there's room for blending.

As a Hindu practitioner, I think it’s essential to honor the rules of your lineage. If you’re following your puja and sadhana guidelines, you may not need the LBRP at all. Just a heads-up, you might not want to practice the LBRP in the same room as your home mandir, as it could potentially offend the deities you worship. Perhaps find a different space for it, or go outdoors.

It's true that many magical practices borrow from each other, but I think staying true to your core beliefs is what works best for long-term success. Sometimes switching things up can lead to surprising results, though!

You're spot on about the LBRP having a structure that incorporates elemental correspondences and distinct forces. Substituting your deities, you’d want to keep their roles aligned with the elements—like using Saraswati for air or Ganesha for earth. It’s all about preserving the ritual's mechanics and correspondences while representing your own tradition.

I've always thought of the LBRP as a way to only banish negative energies during rituals. It's not about clearing out what you're trying to build up with your practices.

You should be fine using the LBRP! Some practitioners even replace the archangels with their own deities for the corners. If you're still feeling uncertain, you might want to try the Lesser Invoking Ritual of the Pentagram (LIRP) instead—just switch your starting point when you draw the pentagram to invoke instead of banish.
