I’m wondering whether it’s disrespectful to work with a deity for one request and then not make them a long-term part of my practice.
Is it okay to ask a deity for help with one specific thing?

It depends on what “working with” means in your practice. A single prayer or request doesn’t have to mean you’re promising an ongoing relationship. Be clear about what you’re asking, avoid making promises you don’t intend to keep, and show whatever respect or thanks feels appropriate to you.

Some people treat deity work as a commitment with responsibilities, while others are comfortable making a focused request without a lasting bond. If you’re following a particular tradition, its expectations may matter more than general advice. When in doubt, keep the request modest and don’t imply a commitment you aren’t prepared to make.
