A circulating summary attributes a shapeshifting claim to a survivor. How can people discuss something like that without presenting it as fact or dismissing the person who reportedly said it?
How do you handle a really extraordinary claim in a survivor account?

Keep the wording precise: someone is reported to have described an experience, and that is different from establishing that the event happened as described. If there is a recording or full interview, check the context before passing along a short summary. If there isn’t, it’s fair to say the account can’t be verified from what’s available.

I’d separate two questions: what the person says they experienced, and what evidence supports the literal interpretation. You can take the report seriously as a report without endorsing a supernatural explanation. And an unusual claim on its own doesn’t prove someone is lying.

Before sharing it, I’d look for the original wording and any reliable corroboration. If neither is available, don’t build a bigger story around it. Just say the claim is unverified, or leave it out.

That distinction helps. A brief retelling can leave out a lot of context, so I’d avoid treating it as a settled fact either way.
