Can Non-Christian Practitioners Work with Archangels and Saints?

I'm curious about the experiences of those who identify as non-Christian yet feel a connection to archangels and saints. Specifically, how do others navigate this dynamic? Personally, I've delved into the energy work associated with Archangel Michael, though it never really resonated with me; it felt like it opened doors to energies I wasn't seeking. Recently, I've felt a strong pull towards Saint George, who represents courage and conviction, which resonates with my personal journey of shadow work. However, I left my traditional Christian faith behind long ago—growing up Orthodox, going through Anglican school, and spending time in Catholicism before realizing it wasn't for me due to my identity. Now that I'm practicing polytheism, I'm comfortable honoring deities from various faiths, but incorporating aspects of Christianity, especially honoring martyrs and saints, feels complex. Am I overthinking this because of past trauma from the church? I'd love to hear any advice or similar experiences from those who might have worked through this.

I totally get where you’re coming from! I still feel a strong connection to my Catholic roots but also work with deities from other traditions like Norse and Hellenic. In my experience, there’s no conflict. It’s more about how you embody the values they represent. For example, Archangel Michael is all about healing and protection, and you can definitely reach out for that help even while honoring other gods. It’s really about your intention and heart.

Just a heads up, from what I’ve understood about the Christian doctrine, some believe that the Christian God might not want to share space with other spirits or deities due to the first commandment. But hey, everyone’s path is different!

You might want to check out the Folk Catholic Magic community. They have people who share similar experiences and practices as yours. It could really help you connect with others who understand your journey.
starlitDreamer: Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely look into that.

Honestly, I think the best approach is just to talk to the saint or archangel directly. Ask them how they feel about your practice—it can be really illuminating! You might get a clearer answer about how to proceed.

Remember, your practice is uniquely yours. If you feel called to incorporate Saint George into your rituals, go for it! Your past with the church relates to your experiences, not to the essence of the saints or angels. I’m diving deep into gnosticism myself, which has opened my mind to so many new ideas and connections.
