I’m trying to understand how Dianic Wicca is viewed in contemporary Pagan practice. Is there a particular teaching that draws criticism, or does it depend on the group?
What tends to draw criticism of Dianic Wicca?
Answers
A recurring criticism concerns gender inclusion rather than one unusual spiritual belief. Some groups have defined their practice around women in ways that exclude trans women, and that has been criticized as trans-exclusionary. Other groups using the Dianic label are more inclusive, so the name alone doesn’t tell you where a particular circle stands.

Dianic Wicca is often associated with Goddess-centered practice and a focus on women’s spiritual experience. Those emphases aren’t shared or interpreted identically by every group. Some people value women-centered ritual, while others object when that focus becomes a strict definition of who counts as a woman or who may participate. It’s worth asking which group or teaching someone means before treating Dianic Wicca as one uniform tradition.
