I came across an account of a recording of a conversation involving intense déjà vu that later could not be found. How would you think through something like that without jumping to conclusions?
What do you make of a recording disappearing after an uncanny experience?
Answers
First, I’d treat the missing file as a separate problem from what the conversation felt like. Check the device, recording app, cloud storage, trash or recently deleted folder, and any export or backup locations. If another person handled the file, ask what they can still access. A failed upload, a saved file in an unexpected folder, or a sync issue can be easy to overlook.
If it still cannot be located, write down what was checked and when. That gives you a clearer record without deciding what caused it.

The sense of déjà vu can be vivid and meaningful, but it doesn’t tell us why a recording went missing. I’d keep those as two observations: what was experienced during the conversation, and what happened to the file afterward. That leaves room for technical explanations while still taking the experience seriously.

For anything you really want to keep, make a simple backup routine before you need it. Save a local copy, make a second copy somewhere separate, and confirm that both files open. Keep the original file name and note the date and device. It won’t explain a strange loss, but it can make an ordinary storage mishap less likely to erase the only copy.
