Does a flash drive handoff prove the camera cards were tampered with?

I’ve seen a claim that camera cards were given to investigators on a flash drive instead. Does that alone show the cards were removed or the footage was altered? The claim I saw didn’t include records to verify what happened.

No. A drive containing footage would not, by itself, establish whether the original cards were removed, copied, or altered. It also doesn’t show who prepared the drive or when. Those are separate questions that need evidence.

So the format of what was handed over isn’t enough to establish the handling history.

I’d look for the underlying records before drawing a conclusion: an evidence inventory, custody log, transfer documentation, and any forensic examination report. If those aren’t available, the claim remains unverified. A description of the handoff alone leaves too many gaps.

There’s a difference between a suspicious-sounding detail and proof of tampering. A reliable account would need to establish what the original media was, what was delivered, and whether the files match an examination of the originals. Without that, it’s fair to ask questions, but not to treat the allegation as established.
