Could these two Texas cases be connected?

A man disappeared from Austin in 2012, and an unidentified person was found in San Antonio in 2017. The reported height, hair, and eye color are similar, though the listed weight differs. The missing man was also described as having several scars. Is this enough to suggest a possible match?

There are some points worth comparing: the height is close, and the hair and eye color match. But those traits are not very distinctive on their own. The reported weight is also different, though that alone would not settle anything.

The listed scars could be more informative if they can be checked against the unidentified person's records. Dental comparison or DNA would be much stronger than appearance. I’d treat this as a lead to pass to the agencies handling the cases, not as an identification.

Agreed. The scar locations seem like a useful detail to include when submitting a tip, while being clear that they are reported features to compare, not a confirmed match.

The dates and locations don't rule it out, but they don't establish a connection either. A five-year gap and two cities in the same state leave a lot unknown about what happened in between.

I'd check whether the official case files mention any compatible travel or identification details before drawing much from the resemblance. The weight difference is worth flagging, but it isn't enough by itself to dismiss the possibility.

It seems plausible enough to report, but not enough to call a match. Keep the tip factual: the missing-person description, the unidentified case number if available, and the specific similarities and discrepancy. Let investigators compare records rather than trying to settle it from photos.
