Why ground yourself if you’re trying to raise your frequency?

I’m trying to understand why grounding is considered important in spiritual practice if the goal is to reach a higher frequency. Are those ideas in conflict?

They can be seen as doing different jobs. “Raising your frequency” is often used for aiming toward a more open or positive state, while grounding means staying connected to everyday life and your body. In that framing, grounding helps you carry the experience into ordinary decisions instead of treating it like an escape upward.

I’d treat frequency as spiritual language, not a literal scale you have to climb. Grounding can simply mean slowing down, noticing what’s around you, and checking how you feel. Some people find that makes spiritual practices feel steadier, but it doesn’t have to be a required step.

There isn’t one rule everyone has to follow. If a practice leaves you scattered or detached, grounding might be useful afterward. If it feels fine without it, you may not need to add it. The point is less “higher versus lower” and more whether the practice is helping you feel present and function well.
