I keep seeing online communities where people post photos and ask who they resemble. Is it mostly for fun, or should people be concerned that the photos could be used for face matching?
Why are lookalike photo communities getting so popular?

It may simply be an easy way to get reactions and compare impressions. People are curious about resemblance, and a photo prompt gives others something quick to respond to. That alone doesn’t show there’s a coordinated effort behind it.

The privacy question is fair, even without evidence of a larger scheme. A face photo can travel beyond the original post, so anyone sharing one should think about whether they’re comfortable with it being copied or seen out of context.

Some posts might be aimed at getting attention or directing people elsewhere, but you can’t tell that just from someone asking for a lookalike. I’d judge each post on what it actually says, not assume every poster has the same motive.
