Understanding Elements, Directions, and the Pentagram

I'm diving into the connections between elements, the pentagram, and cardinal directions. It all started with the Lesser Banishment Ritual of the Pentagram, but the more I research, the more I find discrepancies in the Golden Dawn's teachings on how the pentagram is traced. It seems like there's a common error that folks don't usually dig deep enough to uncover. I came across a video by Foolish Fish that explains this issue well. From what I've gathered, the elemental connections of the pentagram can be translated into cardinal directions, with spirit in the center. It seems that if we swap air and water, everything falls into place, but I'm struggling to understand why that is the case. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic, your personal associations, and any book recommendations for a deeper exploration on the matter. I'm aware many prefer sticking with the Golden Dawn's associations, but they just don't resonate with me as they stand.

If earth embodies all four elements, that raises an interesting point about the four archangels and their corresponding names of God associated with each direction. For example, with fire being pure, I'm curious how ELOHIM and Archangel Michael fit into this - especially in each of the four corners. What’s your take on this connection?

deep_digger: I get where you're coming from, but you're citing specific ritual details here. There are various versions of the rituals that switch things up, but I focus more on the cultural angles when considering the elements and their connections.
