How to Respectfully Clean and Honor Animal Bones for Rituals?

I'm a newer witch, and today I stumbled upon an old deer skeleton while working in my backyard. For now, I've placed the bones in a box outside since I live with someone who's very squeamish. I'm hoping to clean and use these bones for rituals and art. However, I really struggle with the concept of death and I'm worried about disrespecting the spirit of the deer. I want to spiritually cleanse the bones and pay my respects, but I'm unsure how to start. I do have some sage that was gifted to me, but I'd love advice from more experienced practitioners. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Talking directly to the deer spirit is a great start! I tend to use sage only when I want to clear everything out, so if you use it here, it might also push the deer’s spirit away. Instead, focus on traditional cleaning and preservation methods, and make sure to ask for the deer’s permission before you proceed.

Welcome! It sounds like you’re on an exciting path! If you’re new to working with animal spirits, you can start by expressing your intentions clearly. When you're ready to cleanse the bones, you might consider using a more gentle method that doesn't overpower the spirit, like a simple warm water rinse. If you're interested, I can share more about how to connect with animal spirits.
