How should I assess a claim about rituals on the Moon?

I came across an extraordinary claim that someone spent time on the Moon and witnessed rituals. What would count as a good reason to take a claim like that seriously?

Start with what can be checked, not how vivid or confident the story sounds. Look for specific details that could be independently verified, such as records or other sources that do not all trace back to the same person. Without that, it is an unverified claim, not evidence that the events happened.

For the Moon specifically, claims of human activity need strong, checkable support. A story alone does not establish that rituals took place there.

I’d keep two questions separate: is the account supported by evidence, and is the person telling it in distress? You can be kind about the second without treating the first as proven. If someone seems frightened or overwhelmed, a calm conversation and support from someone they trust may help more than arguing over every detail.

Ask for evidence that could stand on its own, then see whether it actually confirms the unusual part of the story. A record of a mission, for example, would not by itself prove that rituals happened. If there’s nothing independent to check, it’s reasonable to stay undecided and not pass the claim along as fact.
