I came across The Secret Founding of America, which presents its subject through occult history. What do you look for when deciding whether a claim is well supported or mostly interpretation?
How do you evaluate a book about occulted American history?
Answers
I’d start with a specific claim, not the broad framing. Check whether the author points to identifiable documents or objects, and whether those sources actually support the conclusion being drawn from them. A symbol can be real while the explanation attached to it remains debatable.

Keep three things separate: what a source directly says, what the author infers from it, and what a reader finds suggestive. That makes it easier to enjoy an unusual interpretation without treating it as established history.

See whether the book makes its case easy to check. Are the source details specific enough to follow up? Does it consider ordinary explanations or acknowledge uncertainty? If you can’t tell from the description alone, pick one concrete claim and assess that before judging the whole book.
