Are feeds really pushing more doom than before?

It can feel like bleak posts are everywhere when scrolling. Are recommendation systems deliberately promoting that mood, or could something else be making it seem so common?

A feed can tilt toward gloomy material without anyone setting out to make people hopeless. If a system favors posts that hold attention or prompt reactions, alarming content may get more chances to appear. That points to an engagement incentive, not proof of a deliberate plan to spread despair.

There are two different claims here: that negative posts are especially visible, and that a company intentionally wants users to feel worse. The first could happen through ranking choices and what people respond to. The second needs evidence of intent, and a bleak-looking feed alone can't establish it.

Your feed isn't a neutral survey of the world. It reflects what you pause on, what gets reactions around you, and what the service chooses to show. If it's getting grim, try actively seeking other subjects or taking a break from the feed, then see whether your impression changes.
