What Was That Green Object I Saw Flying Overhead?

Last year, I had an unusual experience while walking my dog early in the morning around 4 or 5 AM in my small coastal town in the Scottish Highlands. As I crossed the road between my house and a nearby football field, I suddenly saw a bright green light appear in the sky. The object looked like a large asteroid with a fiery red tail, making a sizzling noise as it moved downward. It disappeared in seconds without any sound of impact, leaving me puzzled. I couldn't find any news about it, and I'm curious if anyone has insight into what it might have been. I thought it could be a bolide meteor, but the way it vanished felt otherworldly. I'd love to hear thoughts on what this might have been, and I don't have any photos since my phone was not with me at the time. I also want to add that this green color resembled the Northern Lights, which we see here sometimes, though they weren't occurring that night. If you have any theories or similar experiences, please share!

Your experience reminds me of when I saw a bright meteor while driving late at night. It lit up the sky! I thought it was incredible too. It seems like these events are often missed by news outlets unless there are a lot of witnesses. Seems like you might have caught a rare sight!

Wow, that sounds wild! From what you describe, it really does sound like a bolide meteor. Those can definitely have bright colors like green when they enter the atmosphere. It's not surprising that local news wouldn't pick up on it since it was so early and not a lot of people likely saw it. I've heard of green meteors before, so you might be onto something here!

Sounds very much like a meteor! The colors and noises match up. Meteor sightings can sometimes go unnoticed, especially in the early hours when most are asleep. Don't worry too much about the lack of proof; sometimes, it's all about the experience!
