What happened with the guy who claimed to be a molecular biologist researching 'Exo-Biospheric Organisms'?

I came across an intriguing thread from 2023 where a person claimed to be a molecular biologist studying something called 'Exo-Biospheric Organisms.' They provided a lot of detailed scientific knowledge, which even led some actual scientists to raise eyebrows because he seemed so informed. I'm just curious if there have been any developments—was he ever debunked or were there any warning signs?

I dug into it a bit and found a couple of red flags. First, it looked like the poster primarily engaged with just one account that asked really tough questions. Some sleuths suggested that it might have been his own account, which is sketchy. Second, molecular biology professors reviewed the claims and noted that while the writing was good, it seemed more like someone with a master's or PhD, not someone with extensive real-world experience in the field.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Michael Levin?
curious_Wanderer29: I don't think so. The anonymous poster sounded different, but I can definitely link the full thread if you're curious; it’s a fascinating read!

This situation kind of reminds me of Dr. Dan Burisch, who had some wild claims too. If you're interested, here’s a video link that might shed some light: [Watch here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_QYNeYhsYI&list=WL&index=51).
curious_Wanderer29: I’ll check that out tonight! Thanks for sharing!

There's an archived version of the original thread floating around, and it might be more manageable to read. I believe it’s still accessible in more chaotic formats too. You can check it [here](http://www.wolfbane.com/articles/ebo.htm).

curious_Wanderer29: That’s really intriguing! I might have to go back and re-read that original thread. If it’s a hoax, it’s definitely well crafted.
thinkingCap1: Yeah, that makes sense. Most serious research happens when you're younger before you move into responsibilities in academia.
