How should I read this headline about an insider-trading investigation?

I saw a claim that George Santos is being investigated for insider trading, alongside a mention of his sentence being commuted. What can I actually conclude from that, and what would need checking?

An investigation is not a finding that someone committed a crime. Before treating the claim as established, check whether reliable reporting or an official record confirms an investigation, what conduct is being examined, and whether there are any charges or findings. Those are separate steps.

Keep the two issues separate. A commutation changes a sentence, but it does not by itself settle whether a person did something else. I’d look for clear sourcing on the alleged trading activity and its timeline, rather than assuming the headline’s connection between the events proves anything.
